With my years of experience teaching children I am amazed by how fast they learn.
Children age 8 and up can improve their coordination, motor, and abstract thinking skills while learning how to play guitar and music!
Kids will need to practice at least five days a week to get the fingers familiarized with the strings, to develop strength, dexterity, and sense of sound. Practice is best if it is supervised by the parents. As the child progresses so will be the time needed to practice. As with group sports, fingers need to do constant practice, exercise, and constant repetition of the basics.
Beginners lessons are thirty minutes long, and the first lessons will help the child to get acquainted with the instrument, and start learning staff notation and where that note is played in the guitar.
Intermediate students lessons are forty five minutes. During the class I work technique exercises that will help further develop and strengthen the child’s hands, as well as music that they will enjoy practicing.
Children need a smaller instrument to fit their bodies and hands:
1/4 guitar for children ages 4 to 6
1/2 guitar for children ages 5 to 8
3/4 guitar for children ages 8 to 12
